Summary:
Maintains, repairs, inspects and installs steam plant/refrigeration plant, machinery and associated equipment.
Working Days:
Sunday through Thursday 7:00 am – 3:00 pm.
Education:
Skills normally obtained through completion of a High School education.
Licensure:
Must obtain a City of Providence Boiler Operator or Stationary Engineer License.
Experience:
Three to five years’ experience in boiler operator or Stationary Engineering field.
Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements:
Work requires person to stand or walk most of the day. On average, approximately 75% of the tasks involve lifting weights in the range of 5 to 10 pounds, and 5% of the tasks involve lifting weights in the range of 25 to 50 pounds. Approximately 50% of the tasks involve reaching overhead and working off of ladders. Approximately 5% of the duties involve working with hazardous substances that necessitate the use of safety apparel.
Occasionally, some duties involve working on or around moving machinery, electrical systems, infectious systems, excessive heat, dust, and noise that necessitate proper precautions. Maintains all safety requirements associated with the Medical Center. Occasionally works other hours or shifts in order to complete emergency/critical tasks or tasks that cannot be completed during normal shift hours.
