SUMMARY:
Under the medical supervision of the Co-Directors of the Minimally Invasive Urology Institute (MIUI) and administratively under the Program Manager of the Minimally Invasive Urology Institute and is accountable to provide high quality care within a cost-effective time frame. Is responsible for overseeing the progress of a specific caseload of patients across the care continuum to include pre-admission and post-discharge when feasible.
Acts as an educator, consultant, and liaison to healthcare providers caring for the patients across the care continuum. Functions as a lead resource to other Advanced Practice Providers assigned to area. Serves as an active member of the MIUI service line, attending shared governance meetings and other sub groups as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the service line, The Miriam Hospital and Brown University Health. Works closely with residents, fellows, attending physicians as part of the urology team to coordinate patient care needs day-to-day for patients. Develop strategies to engage and retain advanced practice providers In alignment with The Institute of Medicine’s “The Future of Nursing:
Leading Change, Advancing Health,” serves as an advocate to support advanced practice providers working to the full extent of licensure in accordance with scope and practice. Obtains and records detailed medical histories. Performs and records complete and detailed physical examinations. Records all pertinent patient information in the progress notes within the medical records. Assists in the preparation of discharge summaries.
Initiates life saving measures in emergency situations until aid arrives. Initiates patient orders for admission as directed by the physician and in accordance with the hospital procedure. Assesses patient status, participates in the development of patient care management plans through communication, collaboration and relationship building with the Registered Nurses, attending physicians, residents, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Participates in daily collaborative care rounds Performs credentialed procedures as delineated by the medical staff credentialing.
May evaluate and care for patients who present who in the Emergency Room with urologic problems. Enters orders as needed into Lifechart. Participates and conducts research studies. Assists in the development, validation, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based standards, policies, procedures, and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model. Participates in the education and mentoring of healthcare providers. Precepts advance practice providers Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise.
Annually completes mandatory safety infection control, BLS, and ACLS/PALS. Prescriptive privileges per licensure. Functions as lead resource to other Advanced Practice Providers; assists in interview and selection process. Assists in scheduling and prioritizing work; assists in evaluating performance and recommends corrective action as appropriate. Performs other related duties, as required. color:blue
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Master’s Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with Board Certification from the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as an Acute Care or Adult Nurse Practitioner. Licensed in the State of Rhode Island as a Nurse Practitioner; license must include prescription writing privileges. Or, graduate of a Physician Assistant Program…
