Healthcare Nursing, Nurse Practitioner
Reports to the Medical Director and the Director of Operations; will provide compassionate and excellent patient care by performing courteous, efficient, and accurate service. Assists with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments, and consultations. Mentors clinical personnel, and serves as a liaison with patients, staff, providers, and leadership. Can perform independently and as part of a treatment team.

- Assess, plan, and treat patient needs within an urgent care setting and triage patients to differentiate between immediate and less urgent care for adults and children 18 months and up.
- Effectively manage private, pre-employment, and workers' compensation patients.
- Order medically indicated labs, x-rays, ECGs, point-of-care tests, injections, referrals, and prescribe medications/treatments.
- Perform digital blocks and local anesthesia.
- Perform minor surgical procedures such as lacerations and incision and drainage.
- Consult with other providers on medical care as necessary.
- Maintain adequate patient flow on-site by directing and communicating clearly with assisting clinical staff.
- Maintain quality assurance of charts and testing.
- Handle telephone calls and follow-up care.
- Attend required provider/staff meetings.
- Maintain excellent and timely patient records for clinical use, billing use, and physician and peer review.
- Educate patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments.
- Manage patients who do not require complex medical management or specialized treatment.
- Demonstrate ability to assess, plan, and implement individual patient care appropriate to the age and specific needs of the patient.
- Communicate appropriately with patients regardless of age.
- Complete charting and required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Active participation in the development/review of office policies and procedures as well as instructional handouts.
- Promote a safety-conscious workforce.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Basic Knowledge
- Nurse Practitioner:
Master’s degree from an accredited advanced practice program;
Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. - One of the following current licensures in the State of Rhode Island:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner. - Physician Assistant:
Bachelor’s Degree and graduate of an accredited physician assistant program. Must be certified by NCCPA. Current license as a physician assistant in Rhode Island is required. - Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
- Knowledge of basic emergency department, internal medicine, generalist, occupational medicine, and family practice procedures.
- Organizational and analytical skills necessary to maintain efficient workflow.
- Ability to adjust responsibilities to accommodate a fast‑paced work environment while maintaining excellent customer service and staff interactions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Progressive thinking for budget, training and quality issues.
- Strong leadership qualities.
Experience
- One year of related experience required, two years preferred.
- Prior urgent care or emergency medicine experience preferred; some medical or primary care acceptable.
- Must have experience caring for children ages 18 months and above.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospital, physicians’ office, and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Hazards minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions. No supervisory responsibility.
Pay Range$60.10 - $76.25 per hour
