AboutThe Opportunity
The Research Contract Administrator is responsible for managing Brown University's portfolio of Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), ensuring that the transfer and use of research materials align with institutional policy, legal standards, and sound research practices. This role involves independently reviewing, drafting, and negotiating MTAs to support Brown's research activities, while collaborating with faculty, research staff, and partner offices such as Environmental Health and Safety, Export Control, and Technology Innovations.
The Research Contract Administrator will advise researchers on best practices for sharing materials, interpret agreement terms, and facilitate timely and compliant execution of contracts. In addition to MTAs, the position may oversee other research‑related agreements as needed, contributing to the efficient and effective operation of the Research Agreements and Contracting (RAC) office.
- Education: Bachelor's degree required. Preferred:
Legal training or degree. - Experience: Minimum of 3‑5 years of contract management or research administration experience. Preferred:
Demonstrated ability to understand research nomenclature, particularly in sharing materials;
Prior experience with material transfer agreements or data use agreements. - Job

- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including translating complex legal and policy concepts for diverse audiences.
