Be part of a dynamic team that is using nanotechnology to enable routine, accurate, cost-effective analysis of genomic structural variation, in support of our mission of elucidating the genetic underpinnings of disease, increasing diagnostic yield, and ultimately improving patient outcomes. Nabsys is the pioneer in high-definition electronic genome mapping.
Headquartered in Providence, RI, Nabsys uses proprietary electronic nanodetectors to analyze long DNA molecules traveling at high velocity.
Today Nabsys stands at the threshold of a new era in genomics with the introduction of the OhmX platform. This groundbreaking technology empowers us to map human genomes at an unprecedented scale. Building on our expertise, we’re once again setting our sights on the whole-genome mapping market, with a renewed focus on the human genome.
Title:
Application Scientist
Nature of Role:
This role works closely with Nabsys R&D, product management, and product development teams to execute research projects to demonstrate and expand the utility of electronic genome mapping in understanding human health and disease. You will participate in both wet‑lab and computational approaches for building application and technical notes for Nabsys products, and support customer research needs. The successful candidate must have a background in molecular biology, human genetics, and bioinformatics fields and the enthusiasm to work as a member of a multi‑disciplinary team in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
This is a phenomenal opportunity for a visionary to support an emerging next generation genome mapping platform and make a significant impact on the course of genomic analysis.
- Lead and execute research projects to demonstrate utility of electronic genome mapping across different customer segments and applications
- Adapt existing protocols and develop novel ones to expand EGM capabilities
- Generate supporting wet‑lab and analytical data, analysis, and reporting for EGM applications
- Utilize publicly available structural variant (SV) databases to test, improve, and develop new methods of SV detection
- Evaluate SV calling algorithms by making comparisons across orthogonal technologies
- Design and execute verification and validation activities
- Prepare application notes, technical notes, pre‑sales presentations, training guides, on‑site training, and troubleshooting workflows
- Engage with new and existing customers to educate, support, and train them on Nabsys products
- Participate in instrument sales training sessions and assist with customer product demonstrations
- Utilize publicly available databases to locate sets of structural variants (SVs) to be used to test, improve, and develop new methods of SV detection
- Evaluate SV calling algorithms by making comparisons across orthogonal technologies
- Full time position at our Providence, Rhode Island based headquarters with some travel to attend scientific meetings and to support customers, both domestic and international
- MS/PhD degree in relevant field required with 4+ years of hands‑on experience working in a wet lab with molecular biology protocols and with public databases and bioinformatics.
- Hands‑on experience with NGS methods and analysis, nucleic acid extraction, and hmwDNA
- Experience with long read NGS a plus
- Proficient with python including numerical, statistical, and visualization modules
- Strong mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills
- Skills in bio‑computational programming, scripting, querying, and performing statistical analysis using MATLAB, python, biopython, and R
- Provide data interpretation, insights, and documentation to the commercial team and customers
