The Pembroke Center will award residential postdoctoral research associate positions to scholars whose research connects with the 2027–2028 seminar theme, Rethinking Transnational Feminisms:
Political Economy, Geopolitics, and Feminist Solidarities Across Borders.
The seminar will be led by Nadje Al-Ali and Lingzhen Wang of Brown University. It will examine how political economy, geopolitics and sociocultural formations shape inequalities across national borders, while exploring feminist histories, political movements and alternative forms of solidarity.
The programme challenges US-centred approaches and dominant theoretical frameworks by placing transnational feminist perspectives at the centre of discussions about global power structures. Particular attention will be given to Asia as an important geopolitical context for rethinking transnational feminisms.
Research and Teaching ResponsibilitiesSuccessful candidates will be expected to participate actively in the academic life of the Pembroke Center.
Key responsibilities include:
- Participating in a weekly research seminar.
- Teaching one undergraduate course during the appointment year.
- Conducting independent research connected to the seminar theme.
- Contributing to interdisciplinary discussions and scholarly exchange.
- Supporting Brown University’s research and teaching missions.
- Engaging with the university’s diverse academic community through research, teaching and/or service.
Candidates should demonstrate how their research would contribute to the seminar’s intellectual objectives and how their teaching or service could support an inclusive academic environment.
