Position Overview
Assistant Coach, Golf – Brown University Athletics and Recreation. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, Brown is a member of the Ivy League and sponsors 34 varsity programs, fielding approximately 1,000 student‑athletes in NCAA Division I competition.
This full‑time, fixed‑term position reports directly to the Head Coach and is well suited for a professional who thrives in a high‑performance environment while upholding the Ivy League’s rigorous academic expectations and NCAA compliance standards. The role emphasizes both strategic program development and the holistic growth of student‑athletes, on and off the course.
As a key partner to the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will contribute to practice planning and execution, assist with game strategy, and support in‑competition decision‑making under the Head Coach’s direction. The position may also involve leadership in specialized areas such as skill development, conditioning, scouting, or opponent analysis.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2‑3 years of relevant work experience
- Strong knowledge of the sport and player development
- Solid understanding of the sport’s rules, strategies, and techniques
- Working knowledge of NCAA/league compliance requirements
- Knowledge of athlete skill development and position‑specific training
- Understanding of recruiting processes and athlete evaluation methods
- Awareness of injury prevention and safe training practices
- Strong instructional and coaching skills for both individual and team development
- Effective communication skills with athletes, colleagues, and recruits
- Excellent organization and time‑management skills
- Ability to utilize video analysis and performance review tools
- Basic data collection and performance‑tracking skills
- Ability to assist in designing and executing practice plans
- Ability to evaluate athlete performance and provide constructive feedback
- Ability to support recruiting initiatives and build relationships with prospective athletes
- Adaptability to changing priorities and ability to respond effectively under pressure
- Confidentiality and adherence to compliance standards
- Willingness to support a diverse and inclusive environment
All division employees must demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations. Duties are performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations. Any violations must be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties.
Coaching positions require annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (free through the Division).
