OverviewBrown University invites applications for the Assistant Coach, Golf. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, Brown is an Ivy League member sponsoring 34 varsity programs, with approximately 1,000 student‑athletes competing at the NCAA Division I level. This full‑time, fixed‑term position reports directly to the Head Coach and is well‑suited for a professional who thrives in a high‑performance environment while upholding the Ivy League’s rigorous academic expectations and NCAA compliance standards.
The role emphasizes both strategic program development and holistic growth of student‑athletes, on and off the course.
- Contribute to practice planning and execution.
- Assist with game strategy and support in‑competition decision‑making under the Head Coach’s direction.
- Lead in specialized areas such as skill development, conditioning, scouting, or opponent analysis, as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 2 – 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Strong knowledge of the sport and player development.
- Solid understanding of the sport’s rules, strategies, and techniques.
- Working knowledge of NCAA/league compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of athlete skill development and position‑specific training.
- Understanding of recruiting processes and athlete evaluation methods.
- Awareness of injury prevention and safe training practices.
- Strong instructional and coaching skills for both individual and team development.
- Effective communication skills with athletes, colleagues, and recruits.
- Organization and time‑management skills.
- Ability to utilize video analysis and performance review tools.
- Basic data collection and performance tracking skills.
- Ability to assist in designing and executing practice plans.
- Ability to evaluate athlete performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Ability to support recruiting initiatives and relationship‑building with prospective athletes.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond effectively under pressure.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to compliance standards.
- Willingness to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown. Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification.
