Assistant Coach, Women’s Soccer
Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual for the position of Assistant Coach, Women's Soccer, with a primary focus on Goalkeeper Coaching. This is a full‑time, fixed‑term position reporting directly to the Head Coach, Women's Soccer in Providence, Rhode Island. Brown’s intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes participating in the NCAA Division I.
PrimaryDuties and Responsibilities
- Goalkeeper Coaching & Development
- Design and implement specialized, high‑level training sessions for all goalkeepers, focusing on technical skills (shot‑stopping, handling, distribution), tactical awareness (positioning, communication), and psychological readiness.
- Evaluate goalkeeper performance during training and games, providing constructive feedback and video analysis to facilitate continuous improvement.
- Integrate the goalkeepers into the overall team tactical strategy and practice structure.
- Manage the inventory and maintenance of all goalkeeping equipment.
- General Coaching & Team Operations
- Assist the Head Coach with planning, organizing, and executing daily team practice sessions.
- Contribute to game‑day preparation, including scouting opponents, developing game plans, and advising on match strategy.
- Assist with video analysis for both team and individual player development.
- Mentor and counsel student‑athletes on academic, athletic, and social issues, promoting a positive and high‑performance team culture.
- Run practice or manage the team in the absence of the Head Coach.
- Recruiting & Administration
- Assist in identifying, evaluating, contacting, and recruiting academically qualified and high‑character prospective student‑athletes, with a particular focus on goalkeepers.
- Travel extensively for recruiting purposes, attending showcases, high‑school, and club matches.
- Assist with various administrative duties as assigned by the Head Coach, including team travel logistics, equipment ordering, budget management, and compliance documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Relevant coaching and/or playing experience in soccer, preferably at the collegiate or elite level.
- Proven experience in coaching goalkeepers and in‑depth knowledge of goalkeeping techniques and strategies.
- Strong commitment to and knowledge of NCAA and Ivy League Conference rules and regulations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and significant travel.
- Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; duties of the position are performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations. Any rule violations are to be reported to the compliance office.
Coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (available at no cost through the Division).
