RIPTA is recruiting one or more Paratransit Operator positions. This is an Amalgamated Transit Union Division 618 (ATU 618) position. All applicable CBA selection criteria will be applied when considering internal applicants.

Description of WorkUnder general direction, the Paratransit Operator is responsible for the safety and transportation of passengers and equipment per daily manifest in compliance with all applicable policies and regulations. The operator performs routine vehicle inspections, maintains cleanliness, collects designated fares from passengers following established procedures, and ensures the vehicle operates safely and within all state traffic laws.
This is a full‑time position within the Flexible Services Division. Hours can vary based on the needs of business; hours are not guaranteed. The operator must be able to work early morning, split or late evening shifts and be available on weekends and holidays as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist passengers entering and exiting vans
- Operate vehicle along assigned routes, picking up passengers, collecting, counting fares, and protecting revenue collected according to established procedures
- Operate vehicle in compliance with all company policies and state traffic laws and regulations
- Inspect vehicle (including brakes, lights, doors, buzzers, tires, wheelchair lift, tie‑downs, and horn) to ensure serviceable condition and maintain a clean and presentable interior
- Communicate fluently both verbally and in writing with RIPTA staff and passengers
- Demonstrate computer literacy, reading and understanding information provided on a tablet to perform daily job duties
- Ensure passenger safety and oversee equipment security
- Notify the Operations Coordinator of any emergency, request additional assistance, and evacuate passengers if an emergency warrants action
- Prepare accident/incident reports promptly as required by policy
- Maintain adequate knowledge of the RIDE system to provide routine information and direction to the public
- Attend training sessions provided by RIPTA to ensure passenger and vehicle safety
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
Positions are posted for full‑time employment and classified as entry level.
