Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Process Engineer with a strong background in chemical plant operations and a specialization in advanced materials synthesis, particularly through powder metallurgy routes. This role is crucial for scaling up our cutting-edge powder production processes and driving efficiency across our manufacturing operations. We value candidates who bring diverse experience from chemical processing, metals refining, or advanced ceramics.
WhatYou’ll Do
As a Senior Process Engineer, you will be the technical lead for optimizing, troubleshooting, and scaling our powder production processes. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Process Scale-Up and Design: Lead the transition of lab-scale and pilot-scale metallothermic reduction processes into commercially viable, large-scale production, ensuring robust and economical design.
- Reaction Engineering Expertise: Apply advanced knowledge of gas-solid and solid-solid reaction mechanisms and kinetics to predict, control, and optimize reactor performance and product yield.
- Method Development: Develop and implement rigorous analytical methods and characterization techniques to precisely identify and trace reaction pathways within the system.
- Optimization and Troubleshooting: Utilize industrial experience to rapidly diagnose and resolve complex process issues, reduce variability, and improve overall operational efficiency (e.g., energy consumption, cycle time).
- Safety and Compliance: Design processes and procedures that meet the highest standards for operational safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory requirements typical of chemical plant environments.
- Equipment Specification: Define and specify necessary large-scale process equipment (reactors, handling systems, furnaces) and oversee their installation and commissioning.
- Mentorship and
Collaboration:
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians. Collaborate closely with R&D scientists, production managers, and plant operations teams.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of direct, hands‑on work experience in a chemical, metals refining, powder materials, or advanced materials manufacturing plant environment.
- Solid understanding of powder metallurgy principles, with significant experience in metallothermic reduction processes.
- Deep expertise in reaction kinetics and thermodynamics, specifically related to gas‑solid and solid‑solid reaction mechanisms.
- Demonstrated experience in process scale‑up, including generating mass and energy balances, performing simulations, and optimizing unit operations.
- A self‑starter capable of working independently, driving projects to completion, and thriving in a fast‑paced, results‑driven environment.
- Proven ability to develop and validate new methods for process analysis and pathway identification.
- This role requires to be on‑site at our Provo, UT facility.
- Competitive compensation package.
- Full company benefits, including health, vision, and dental insurance.
- Additional benefits such as retirement plans, paid time off, and opportunities for professional development.
