Job Description SummaryWe are seeking a motivated Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) to support research studies involving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for severe psychiatric illness. You will work directly with patients receiving ECT at Penn’s Interventional Psychiatry Clinic and help oversee their participation in ongoing clinical research projects focused on brain activity, behavior, and treatment outcomes.
In this role, you will assist with screening potential participants, coordinating and documenting the informed consent process, administering standardized clinical and cognitive assessments, and collecting brain activity data during treatment sessions. You will also help manage IRB protocols, maintain study documentation, and prepare data for manuscripts, grant proposals, and presentations. You will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Zachary Rosenthal, as well as the Penn Interventional Psychiatry clinical team, to support study operations, implement approved changes, and monitor study milestones.
Job DescriptionJob Responsibilities
- Collect brain monitoring data during patient ECT treatment sessions (optical brain monitoring, EEG, clinical symptom assessments).
- Prepare, submit, and maintain IRB applications, amendments, and continuing reviews in accordance with FDA, IRB, and institutional guidelines.
- Ensure protocol compliance by collecting, recording, and maintaining accurate source documentation.
- Manage study databases, including data cleaning, organization, and preliminary analysis.
- Track study supplies, maintain equipment, and coordinate with clinic staff to ensure smooth study operations.
- Promote Good Clinical Practice (GCP) by maintaining working knowledge of federal regulations and human subjects protection.
- Assist in preparing summaries, tables, and data visualizations for abstracts, manuscripts, grant applications, and presentations.
- Other duties as assigned, depending on evolving study needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Comfort communicating compassionately and clearly with patients undergoing psychiatric treatment.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks.
- High reliability, punctuality, follow‑through, and professionalism in sensitive clinical environments.
- Interest in psychiatry, neuroscience, clinical research, or brain stimulation a plus.
- Strong willingness to learn, and/or prior experience with clinical symptom scales for mental health
- Experience working with patients, families, and multidisciplinary clinical teams
- Availability to work during ECT clinic times (Mon, Wed, Fri 7:30AM–noon).
