American Sign Language Interpreter

Provide interpretation between English and American Sign Language for students, faculty, staff, and guests of the university. This part‑time position requires 17.5 hours per week.

• Skill/Certification levels as noted below (Utah Professional certification, Utah Master
  * certification, RID CI
  * certification, or RID CT
  * certification)
• Ability to hear auditory information at a normal level with or without auditory aids.
• Ability to hear, comprehend, and retain working memory, auditory stimuli.
• Arrange seating, standing, or other positioning to ensure unobstructed visual communication.
• Ensure lighting and auditory reception is appropriate to facilitate effective communication.
• Mediate understanding cross culturally and bi‑lingistically.
• Inform parties involved when discrepancies in communication exist because of cultural or linguistic variation.
• Provide interpretation for classes of moderate complexity.
• Can work independently in the course (while compensating for the linguistic acumen of the student).

Graduation from high school or equivalent.
