Provide interpretation between English and American Sign Language for students, faculty, staff, and guests of the university. This part‑time position requires 17.5 hours per week.
What You’ll Do In This Position- Skill/Certification levels as noted below (Utah Professional certification, Utah Master
* certification, RID CI
* certification, or RID CT
* certification) - Ability to hear auditory information at a normal level with or without auditory aids.
- Ability to hear, comprehend, and retain working memory, auditory stimuli.
- Arrange seating, standing, or other positioning to ensure unobstructed visual communication.
- Ensure lighting and auditory reception is appropriate to facilitate effective communication.
- Mediate understanding cross culturally and bi‑lingistically.
- Inform parties involved when discrepancies in communication exist because of cultural or linguistic variation.
- Provide interpretation for classes of moderate complexity.
- Can work independently in the course (while compensating for the linguistic acumen of the student).
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
