Transportation Security Officers are responsible for providing security and protection of travelers across all transportation sectors in a courteous and professional manner. Their duties may also extend to securing high‑profile events, important figures, and any component of the transportation system.

The salary range for Provo, UT (PVU – Provo Municipal Airport) is $40,332 to $56,282, or $19.33 to $26.97 per hour, including locality pay of 17.06%.

• Operate screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers.
• Perform searches and screening, including physical interaction with passengers, bag searches, and lifting bags up to 50 lbs.
• Control terminal entry and exit points.
• Interact with the public, give directions and respond to inquiries.
• Maintain focus and awareness in a stressful environment, preserving the ability to identify and locate potentially life‑threatening devices and make effective decisions.
• Engage in continuous development of critical thinking skills to mitigate actual and potential security threats.
• Retain and implement knowledge of applicable Standard Operating Procedures and adapt to new information or unexpected obstacles.

• Maintain agility to squat and bend.
• Repeatedly lift and manipulate baggage up to 50 lbs.
• Walk up to three (3) miles during a shift and stand for prolonged periods (up to 4 hours).

• Experience:
  
  At least one year of full‑time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X‑ray technician.
• Education:
  
  High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC.

• U.S. citizenship or U.S. national.
• Minimum age 18.
• Selective Service registration required.
• Must pass structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation.
• Subject to post‑employment random drug and/or alcohol testing.
• Must be available to work various shifts, overtime, and occasional travel.
• Proficient in English.
• Exposure to potentially lethal devices and dangerous chemicals is inherent.

Full‑time positions require 40 hours per week, including shift work any day from Sunday through Saturday, with possible evenings, nights, overtime, extensions, weekends, and split shifts. Part‑time shifts generally range from 16–32 hours per week under similar shift conditions.

Employees may be required to wear TSA‑approved personal protective equipment. TSA may apply a sex‑specific hiring preference to meet security mission and same‑sex pat‑down requirements.

Applicants must reside in the United States for three of the last five years. Exceptions include foreign government service, military dependents, foreign study at a U.S. affiliated college, or federal background investigation completion.
