Flight Line Technician

The Flight Line Technician role at Utah Valley University offers a hands‑on opportunity to be part of a dynamic aviation environment that supports student learning and campus operations. In this position, you will provide professional, customer‑focused service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors while ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people, aircraft, vehicles, and equipment across the airfield. Your work will include a wide range of aircraft and ground support services such as marshaling, fueling, towing, parking, hangar storage, and coordinating arrivals and departures, all while maintaining safety standards, accurate records, and quality control.

• Direct aircraft: guide, tow, park, greet and organize aircraft arriving or departing from UVU’s ramp. Tow planes to appropriate flight areas and hangars. Operate ground service equipment such as tugs, fuel trucks, and transport vehicles. Must know how to direct pilots using appropriate aviation hand signals.
• Maintenance and fuel: monitor fuel levels and maintain fuel inventories to ensure aircraft have the correct amount of fuel. Ensure fuel trucks are stocked and prepared to distribute fuel, check the plane’s oil level, perform quality control checks, and report any visible damage to aircraft. Perform light maintenance such as ensuring internal and external aircraft lights are turned off.
• Hangars and ramp: maintain hangars and ramp area for aircraft parking or storage. During inclement weather, aid in maintaining walkways and ramp so staff and students have a safe route, assist in de‑icing aircraft, and report suspicious activity to security.
• Customer service: provide customer service needs, give staff and students directions, interact with dispatchers, converse with pilots and students entering or exiting the ramp.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Graduation with a high school diploma, or equivalent, and one year related experience; or any combination of job‑related experience and education totaling one year.

Education and experience related to the Summary of Responsibilities totaling two years.

Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and pass the university’s Defensive Driving Course while employed.

• Ability to lift 30 lbs and manually manipulate aircraft in aircraft hangars.
