Oklahoma Heart Institute offers 24/7 catheterization labs, cardiac rehabilitation, and a heart failure center. In addition, OHI is involved in over 200 cutting‑edge research studies across a vast array of specialties within the system.
Day in the Life of a Medical AssistantThe Medical Assistant provides superior patient care and performs administrative and delegated clinical tasks that support patients in a clinic‑based environment as part of a care team led by the physician and/or advanced practice provider.
- Enters, maintains, and reports all medical history, medical coding, and files claims using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Supports patient visits by greeting patients, escorting them to exam rooms, taking vital signs, and collecting other applicable medical information to effectively support the reason for the visit.
- Sterilizes and prepares medical instruments; ensures exam rooms are disinfected, orderly, and ready for patients; provides privacy, comfort, safety, and hygiene.
- Assists in maintaining inventory and stocking supplies, instruments, and equipment for all exam rooms.
- Maintains appropriate paperwork for inventory control and reviews orders received for completeness.
- Addresses and requests referrals and other insurance authorizations, and passes along patient information for prescription, x‑ray, or lab requisitions to appropriate parties. This includes calls to pharmacies, hospitals, and labs.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Microsoft Office.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 14 days of start.
Job Requirements
- Associate’s degree.
- Graduation from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist school/program or three years of MA experience.
- Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic experience meets qualifications for OHI clinics.
Salary: $35,000.00–$40,000.00 per year.
