Job DescriptionUnited Companies is looking for a dynamic and talented Environmental Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, is dependable, has strong communication and negotiation skills, and can work effectively with minimal supervision. We will provide necessary training that covers water sampling, stormwater management for sites and construction, erosion control inspections, and other field work assignments. This position involves communication with various local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
Wages range from $23.50-$25.50 per hour, dependent upon experience
Job ResponsibilitiesUnited Companies is seeking a motivated Environmental Technician to coordinate fieldwork related to the various environmental aspects of our sites. This role is essential for ensuring economical, effective, and ongoing environmental compliance across the company. The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform mandatory routine water sampling as required by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) for stormwater/discharge permits at gravel facilities and construction projects. Facilitate testing of the parameters specified by each CDPHE discharge permit.
- Additional soil sampling may be necessary for facilities. This could include, but is not limited to, sampling for contaminated soil and promoting reclamation success.
- Compile water sampling data to be entered into the NetDMR system, ensuring that each facility complies with its permit requirements. Submit Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs) to the appropriate agencies.
- Local agencies may impose additional testing requirements based on special use permits.
- Collect various environmental data for multiple facilities that require well monitoring and submit this data to the respective entities as required.
- Conduct stormwater inspections for each United facility on a quarterly basis. These inspections are performed both on a scheduled and random basis to verify compliance with sediment and erosion control practices as outlined in the general permit requirements.
- Carry out Colorado Discharge Permit System Stormwater Construction Permit (CDPS‑SCP) site evaluations, which involve weekly scheduled and unscheduled inspections of construction sites to ensure adherence to sediment and erosion control practices per the general permit requirements.
- Assist and attend inspections with various local and state agencies.
- An understanding of the NPDES federally mandated stormwater permit.
- Ability to quickly assess problems and act to positively resolve issues and coordinate efforts to the satisfaction of the owners/public agencies.
- Government and private agency interaction and relationship development.
- Updating, analyzing, and researching solutions to project concerns.
- Ongoing communication between team members for quality purposes.
- Ability to communicate across departments and divisions to successfully synchronize schedules, projects, and reporting procedures.
- Preparation of Stormwater Management Plans, read and understand construction and reclamation plans, and complete required reports and documentation.
- Strong organizational and computer skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- A continuous commitment to improving and expanding technical knowledge in the field.
- Self‑motivated and focused on generating innovative ideas.
- General knowledge of construction and/or environmental principles.
- Familiarity with stormwater management is a plus.
- An associate degree, bachelor's degree, or technical equivalent is preferred.
- Previous experience in construction or environmental role is advantageous.
- A valid Colorado driver's license is required.
