Overview
Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) is a 24 hour behavioral health acute care facility that provides a safe, secure, and therapeutic setting for patients with both psychiatric and medical issues. CMHHIP serves as a cornerstone of the Pueblo community and focuses on returning patients to their optimal level of functioning and reintegration into the community where appropriate.
This posting will be used to fill multiple vacancies. This position has a residency waiver and will be accepting applications from residents and non-residents of Colorado. If appointed to a position, applicants from outside of Colorado will be required to relocate to Colorado prior to their start date, at their own expense. A short-staffing temporary pay differential of 4% will be applied.
Aboutthe Position
This position is responsible for assisting nursing staff with clinical direction and supervision of nursing staff, QA/PI activities and ensuring compliance across areas, and interdisciplinary collaboration. It is accountable to the Lead Nurse/Nurse III. The full-time role facilitates groups and ensures nursing standards of care are implemented throughout all phases of the nursing process and delivery of services. The Nurse II works in tandem with other staff on the unit and across the continuum, adhering to professional codes of conduct and applicable regulatory standards to ensure nursing personnel function within their scope of practice.
The Nurse II communicates, implements, and clarifies nursing policies at the unit level and assists with performance improvements and on-site survey readiness and documentation requirements.
- Clinical Direction: direct supervision of all nursing staff on the assigned unit, in conjunction with the Lead Nurse.
- Coordinate staffing schedules using acuity knowledge and pool staff to maximize quality of care.
- Notify the Lead Nurse promptly of personnel needs; ensure nursing services are delivered correctly.
- Ensure nursing assignments are completed in accordance with CMHIP policies and nursing standards while coordinating with the Lead Nurse.
- Notify unit staff of changes to processes, policies, and procedures; use Cornerstone Rosters, meetings, email, and direct contact for communication.
- Conduct individual coaching sessions with assigned staff and maintain regular communication with other disciplines and leadership regarding nursing directives.
- Interpret and respond to leadership communication to understand potential impacts on the nursing department.
- Maintain nursing standards of care for the assigned shift by creating and maintaining processes to ensure standards are followed.
- Adhere to the CDHS Code of Conduct and CMHIP Code of Ethics.
- Stay current with policies and literature related to nursing and specialty areas and communicate updates to subordinates.
- Notify nursing supervisors promptly of unit issues involving patients or staff.
- Collaborate with all departments and provide assistance as needed.
- Provide guidance for daily cross-shift reports, direct nursing care, and communication to shift personnel.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and unit direction per hospital procedures.
- Mentor and train nursing personnel; provide feedback and support staff development.
- Keep performance plans current and ensure staff understand duties, expectations, and competencies.
- Administer in-service training and monitor compliance with mandatory training and electronic systems (BEHR, Cornerstone) for rosters and training.
- Maintain educational profiles and monitor mandatory competencies.
- Support hospital-wide mandatory training and staff development initiatives.
- Oversee nursing care on the assigned shift to maintain a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment.
- Respond to psychiatric/medical issues, participate in Trauma Informed Care initiatives, and ensure appropriate documentation and procedures.
- Ensure proper nursing care documentation, infection control standards, and compliance with procedures for medications, treatments, and tests; obtain necessary data after hours.
- Evaluate and revise care plans based on nursing history; uphold patient rights and ethical considerations in care delivery.
- Provide patient and family education regarding medications, physical care, and psychiatric care within group therapies and care planning processes.
- Provide shift/unit coverage and revise nursing care as needed based on patient history.
- Perform any other duties needed for the shift/unit and department.
Education/Licensure/Certification/
Experience:
Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) and two (2) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
