Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo (CMHHIP) is a 24‑hour behavioral health acute care facility dedicated to providing a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for patients with psychiatric and medical needs. CMHHIP serves the Pueblo community and seeks qualified candidates to join our team.
Position OverviewUnder the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse III (LPN‑III) provides safe and therapeutic care on assigned units. The role includes maintaining patient and staff safety, participating in multidisciplinary care, tutoring new staff, leading therapy sessions, and serving as a resource for milieu management and safety protocols.
Responsibilities- Provide safe, therapeutic milieu management and maintain a secure environment.
- Advocate for patients and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Mentor new staff and students, and conduct training on safety, seclusion, restraint, and violence prevention.
- Advise on and enforce containment techniques and correct use of restraints during SECLUSION/RSTRICTION (S/R) episodes.
- Monitor and document nursing care, including psychiatric and medical assessments, medication administration, and infection control.
- Respond to emergency situations, provide crisis intervention, and ensure rapid communication with the Registered Nurse and Charge RN.
- Coordinate unit and campus searches, perimeter checks, and assist with fire drills.
- Collect and report hazardous findings to Charge RN or Division of Facilities Management.
- Maintain patient records, complete incident reports, surgery incident reports, and other required documentation.
- Perform and document proper physical treatment interventions when necessary.
- Current LPN license from the Colorado Board of Nursing or a state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- Board‑approved IV certification with supervised clinical hours; evidence of IV knowledge and skill must be provided.
- Three years of professional experience in an occupational field related to behavioral health nursing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, perform CPR, and execute defensive tactics as required.
- Knowledge of CDHS and CMHHIP policies, the Colorado Psychiatric Technician Practice Act, and nursing standards of care.
- Capacity to work varied shifts and respond promptly to disruptions.
- Full background check (background, fingerprint, and drug screening) required for all applicants.
- Direct contact with vulnerable adults; must adhere to all relevant statutes and policies.
- TB screening upon hire.
- Paid bi‑weekly and eligible for the benefits program detailed in the Supplemental Information.
- Comprehensive orientation and competency assessment program.
- Required to complete and maintain all CMHHIP and CDHS training and competency requirements.
- Ability to travel to other CMHHIP locations if required.
