. The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations and helps create a sales culture by delivering outstanding guest service and knowledge of our products. This role supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager’s absence.

Responsibilities
  • Provide best-in-class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions, inform guests of promotions, recommend items, apply selling behaviors, and circulate throughout the store to prioritize guests over tasks.
  • Support the shopping environment, visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business.
  • Process guest purchases and returns using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system accurately; issue receipts and ensure high-quality guest service during transactions.
  • Respond to guest comments or questions in person or on the phone; escalate issues to the Store Manager when appropriate.
  • Promote Game Stop guest benefits (e.g., new title reservations, trade-in program, Pro Rewards).
  • Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations and training store associates on policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines.
  • Observe associate performance, provide timely feedback, and address unsatisfactory performance as directed, ensuring alignment with company standards.
  • Provide recognition and feedback to all store associates and document performance in the HR system in partnership with the Store Manager.
  • Ensure onboarding, job training, and compliance training are completed prior to opening or closing a shift; associates should know policies, inventory control and loss prevention practices, safety, financial protocol, and ethical responsibilities.
  • Schedule store associates to follow scheduling guidelines; manage breaks and meals; supervise staffing levels to maintain optimal guest service.
  • Approve payroll, manage time off requests, and verify that associates are paid for time worked.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and organization, ensure merchandised displays per company guidelines, and keep fixtures and equipment in working order.
  • Ensure Omni-Channel orders are fulfilled and shipped daily.
  • Protect company assets through inventory control and loss prevention; inspect packages at closing as needed and report concerns to the Store Manager.
  • Support the store team in meeting and exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals and complete required administrative and operational duties.
  • Perform store inventory counts, stock/restock merchandise, and move products from the stock room to the floor to keep products represented and organized.
  • Balance and reconcile daily transaction totals in the POS; complete closeout paperwork and bank deposits per guidelines.
  • Verify shipments for discrepancies; conduct inventories and report discrepancies to the Store Manager/ District Manager.
  • Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls; ensure proper labeling and packing lists.
  • Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety; identify and address hazardous situations; report injuries promptly per company guidelines.
  • Maintain store records/files and ensure manuals are up to date.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager’s absence.
  • Adhere to Game Stop policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct; follow opening and closing procedures.
  • Adhere to all opening and closing procedures.
Qualifications
  • Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree with emphasis in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
  • At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
  • At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred.
  • Video game knowledge preferred.
