CDOT has a vacancy for a temporary Highway Maintenance Specialist in Pueblo
, CO for the summer season.

CDOT offers $25.17
/hour for the summer season. The majority of CDOT’s temporary Highway Maintenance positions work 40 hours per week with the opportunity for overtime.

What You Will Do
  • Maintain roadways and perform winter maintenance such as snow plowing and applying de-icing materials.
  • Operate heavy equipment, such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, tractors, mowers, etc.
  • Mow grass and weeds; remove debris from roadways (rock, mud, deceased animals).
  • Remove debris from culverts, tunnels, etc. and clean drainage systems.
  • Shovel gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt where needed.
  • Install and repair guardrails, highway markers and signs, warning signs, and lighting.
  • Fill potholes and roadway cracks; set out signs and cones for traffic control.
  • Remove and cover graffiti; install pavement markings/striping.
  • Assist with stopping or slowing traffic in emergency situations and maintain equipment with minor repairs.
  • Follow safety guidance and wear proper safety equipment; exposure to loud noises, fumes, odors, gases, dusts, etc.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and work with chemicals and cleaning products; some equipment may require respirators.
  • Work near traffic (sometimes high-speed) and use ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10–20 feet.
  • Operate CDOT vehicles; respond to emergencies outside regular hours and may work overtime including weekends and holidays.
  • Be willing and physically able to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), variable weather conditions, and at elevations up to 12,000 feet for long periods of time.
Qualifications
  • Colorado Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Ability to work in variable weather, at varying elevations, and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Willingness to work near traffic and in potentially hazardous environments while following safety protocols.
