Renewables Energy Technician

Responsible for promoting safe, effective, and reliable operation and maintenance of the Renewable fleet. Inspects, repairs and maintains various types of plant electrical, electronic, instrumentation, controls, and electromechanical equipment, including breakers, battery systems, communication, SCADA, and other devices and control systems. Responsible for overall operations to include operating, monitoring, and controlling the status of all power plant systems. Executes plant shut‑down and start‑ups, responds to alarms and equipment issues, coordinates maintenance and work with current plant conditions and commercial commitments.

• Ensures strict adherence to safety, health and environmental procedures as they relate to plant operations and maintenance, including Lockout Tagout, Job Safety Analysis, Confined Space, Hot Work, Electrical Safety and PPE.
• Inspects, repairs, calibrates, troubleshoots, and maintains various types of plant equipment and systems such as leads, buses, breakers, batteries, lighting, cranes, electrical switches, recorders, communications systems, UPS, battery chargers, and electronic logic controllers.
• Conducts low, medium and high voltage switching, and grounding activities for all plant auxiliary equipment.
• Locates, analyzes and corrects malfunctions of electrical and electronic equipment.
• Understands and ensures proper operation of the plant, and is responsible for plant oversight in the absence of management.
• Performs technical work or analysis of processes and actively trains others in area of expertise.
• Gains knowledge of the entire plant cycle and how it functions.
• Maintains good working relationships with the Renewables Team, POC, Purchasing, Warehouse, OEMs, EPC, contractors and other support groups and vendors.
• Keeps records on electrical and electronic equipment, including inspections and overhaul reports, updates maintenance management system (Maximo), and makes effective use of maintenance planning tools.
• Performs routine and emergency maintenance and/or compliance activities on the plant electrical, instrumentation, HVAC, and control systems, including weekends, holidays and scheduled shifts as assigned.

• High School education or GED equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years working as an Electrician or Technician in an Energy or Oil & Gas related industry.
• Demonstrated effective oral and verbal communication skills.
• Technical expertise to work on and troubleshoot low‑voltage control and power circuits, up to high‑voltage substation and switchyard equipment.
• Technical expertise to perform calibrations and maintenance of field instrumentation.
• Proficient computer skills; understands basic AC/DC Electrical Circuits, Digital/Analog I&C Controls, and Mechanics.
• Grade/level will be dependent on experience/skills.
• This is a represented position and candidate will be required to join the union upon acceptance and start date.

• Develop knowledge and understanding of the power plant processes.
• Demonstrate specific knowledge and skills to perform job assignments.
• Understand how job assignment impacts other systems/units and use this knowledge to maximize safety and minimize equipment problems.
• Use resources such as drawings, instruction books, calibration data sheets and MAXIMO.

• Comply with safety and environmental regulations set by regulatory agencies, the Safety Handbook, Company Policy, and supervision.
• Develop and implement plant operating procedures.
• Direct work of vendors and contractors as assigned.
