Job Description

The Residential Director (RD) position is a live-in position with primary responsibility for the day-to-day residence life operation of an assigned residence hall on campus, including but not limited to housing assignments, housing relocations, check-ins and check-outs, damage assessment, conflict resolution efforts, health and safety inspections, summer/break housing, routine administrative reports and record keeping. RD's report to the Residential Life Coordinator and serve as a member of the Residential Life as part of the Division of Student Life for up to five years.

The Residential Director (RD) position is a live-in position with primary responsibility for the day-to-day residence life operation of an assigned residence hall on campus, including but not limited to housing assignments, housing relocations, check-ins and check-outs, damage assessment, conflict resolution efforts, health and safety inspections, summer/break housing, routine administrative reports and record keeping. RD's report to the Residential Life Coordinator and serve as a member of the Residential Life as part of the Division of Student Life for up to five years.

  • Serve as personal resource for students in support regarding residential life, personal, and college matters
  • Establish and maintain communication with students living in the residence halls through individual outreach and community meetings. Mandatory hall meetings of all residents are required at the beginning of each semester to review policy/procedure and answer questions.
  • Be responsive to email from students, staff, and coworkers
  • Communicate Residential Life and College policies, procedures, and regulations to residents and issue warnings about improper behavior; report all infractions to the Residential Life Coordinator or the Dean of Students for disposition
  • Provide resident programming particularly (a) to build community within the first two weeks of classes each semester; (b) to support mental health during midterms each semester.

  • Oversee the maintenance of the residential hall:
    Check the buildings regularly to make sure the area is clean and in good order;
    File a maintenance request form when repairs are needed;
    Maintain a listing of damages in the building and report these damages
  • With the assistance of the RAs, inventory each room prior to the opening of school and fill out the check in sheets. When students move out, the checkout sheet shall be rechecked to determine damages/missing items. Lists of damages/missing items will be submitted.
  • Assume responsibility for keeping all keys secure, and collect keys when residents move out of the building.
  • Assist the Residential Life Coordinator and/or the Dean of Students and the Director of Facilities in planning for summer renovations, preventative maintenance and safety measures, and making recommendations for the purchase of furnishings and equipment

  • Supervise, support, and evaluate assigned team of Resident Assistants (RA). Conduct regular staff meeting with RA's, with additional meetings as needed, and provide opportunity for one-on-one meetings with RA's as needed
  • Serve as the primary contact for RA programming, including assistance in planning and transportation, and must be available regularly for such programs. RD’s will be expected to at least drop by all programs in their building.
  • Ensure RA compliance with Residential Life policies.
  • Attend Residential Life trainings (typically in August and January), and Opening (August, January) and Closing (December, April/May) dates.
  • Attend regular one-on-one supervisory meeting with the Residential Life Coordinator, and attend monthly Residential Life staff meetings.
