Position Details The OpportunityThe English Department at Washington State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor, Career track (Scholarly Sub-track) faculty position in Pullman, WA, with a specialty in English Education. This position is a fixed-term, nine-month, three-year appointment with possibility of renewal. We seek applicants who will oversee and teach a range of courses in the English Education track.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin the appointment on August 16, 2026.
Job Duties- Teach English Education courses in literature, rhetoric and composition, grammar, and pedagogy.
- Oversee the English Education curriculum, ensuring that it is in alignment with state standards.
- Mentor undergraduate English Education students.
- Liaise with the College of Education, including serving on committees in the College of Education.
- Initiate outreach to local public secondary schools.
- The workload of this position is 60% teaching, 20% oversight of English Education track, and 20% service.
Additional Information:
Annual Salary: $45,000-$55,000 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
- Completed Ph.D., Ed.D., M.Ed., or M.A. in Education, English, or closely related field prior to start of the appointment.
- 2 or more years of full-time junior high or high school teaching experience.
- Demonstrated record of supporting, or potential to support access and opportunity in teaching and service in alignment with WSU's land grant mission.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Secondary specialization in and ability to teach rhetoric classes in our current offerings.
- Demonstrated ability to train teachers in appropriate pedagogies for supporting students from all language backgrounds.
