The Department of English at Washington State University invites applications for a permanent, full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Pullman, WA, with a specialty in Contrapuntal Rhetorics of the Global South
. We seek applicants whose research and teaching specializes in intersectional and interdisciplinary approaches to multimodal digital humanities and archives. Candidates should have a secondary focus on the following sub-specialties: theories of globalization, rhetorics subtending international law and human rights frameworks.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin the appointment on August 16, 2025
Job duties:This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 9-month position.
The workload is 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service
Teach two (2) courses per semester (a 2-2 load).
These courses will be at the upper and lower division undergraduate and graduate courses in specialty areas. In addition, the successful candidate will develop courses in their area of research specialization.
Advise and mentor MA and Ph.D. students
Maintain an active research agenda
Publish scholarly work
Participate in service activities at the departmental, college, university, and campus level
Additional Information:
Annual Salary: $65,000 - $72,000 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Required Qualifications:
Earned Ph.D. in English/Rhetoric and Composition by appointment start date
Record of publication on contrapuntal rhetorics of the Global South, including a published monograph
At least two years full-time teaching experience at the college level
Experience teaching graduate seminars
Experience supervising graduate students
Experience teaching Professional and Technical writing
