Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, you will teach lecture, lab, and seminar courses central to the core CM curriculum in the CM (B.S.) program and allied disciplines within the SDC. Courses include, but are not limited to, materials and methods, project management/delivery, construction cost accounting, construction law, estimating, BIM/VDC, and scheduling.

Additionally, faculty are expected to participate in program and SDC committees, mentor students, and serve as a faculty advisor for student groups and/or coach competition teams. The ability to conduct research and scholarly activities in a defined area of interest is beneficial but not required. This is a 100% FTE position with an 80% Teaching and 20% Service workload distribution. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses central to the construction management core curriculum.

Additional Information Academic Year (9-month)

Salary: $95,000 - $105,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Relevant construction industry experience in the U.S. and a proven record of collaborative work within the construction industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach core curriculum courses (e.g. materials and methods, project management/project delivery, construction cost accounting, construction law, estimating, BIM/VDC, and scheduling) in the undergraduate B.S. Construction Management program and allied disciplines in the school.
  • Willingness and ability to engage with students and industry partners, including the mentorship of students from a wide range of disciplines and academic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Five (5) or more years of domestic construction and/or engineering experience, a bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture or a related field, as well as a Master of Business Administration or equivalent; OR
  • Five (5) or more years of domestic construction and/or engineering experience, and a master's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture or a related field; OR
  • Ten (10) or more years of domestic construction and/or engineering experience, and a bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture or a related field.
Additional

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional registration/certification such as PE, AIA, LEED, WELL, CPC, PMP, or DBIA.
  • Demonstrated higher education teaching experience in a construction management program.
  • Five (5) or more years of construction industry experience in one or more of the following construction market sectors: commercial, large-scale residential construction, heavy civil, infrastructure, or specialty contracting.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including collaboration and teamwork.
