* The Opportunity:

** Under general supervision, you will perform routine laboratory procedures and other laboratory work in the Sample Receiving section of the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL) to support laboratory operations. You will conduct simple and qualitative laboratory work, triage, examine, evaluate, prepare, and route samples for testing, enter data into Laboratory Information Management System, operate and maintain laboratory equipment. You will interact with WADDL clients, faculty, residents and lab personnel, providing exceptional customer service.

Familiarity with basic laboratory practices, equipment, and aseptic techniques is essential.  Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required. You must have a valid driver’s license.

* Required Qualifications:

*** Completion of an approved course  for laboratory assistants OR two years of chemical, or clinical or public health laboratory experience. Training in medical technology or education in college with courses in laboratory sciences may be substituted, year for year, for experience.  Course approved by American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
* Physical eligibility required for working in a Biosafety Lab-2 (BSL-2) environment. See the following link for more information:
* Ability to rotate holidays as scheduled.
* Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.

* Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience handling biological specimens.
* Exceptional data entry skills, demonstrating speed and accuracy.
* Experience in a medical, healthcare, and/or veterinary laboratory setting.
