Role:
Data Protection Operations Engineer

Job Summary
The Data Protection Operations Engineer is responsible for providing 24x7 remote managed services support for Scania’s Data Protection platform. The role focuses on day-to-day operations, monitoring, incident and problem management, backup and restore activities, and proactive maintenance of enterprise-scale backup infrastructure. The engineer works closely with Scania SMEs and other technical teams to ensure high availability, data security, and compliance with Scania standards and policies.

• Backup storage / datastore:
Dell Power Protect Data Domain (DD9910, DD9900, DD6410, DD6400, DD6300)

• Monitoring:
Veeam One

• ITSM:
Scania Now (Service Now), JIRA

• Databases:
Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL

• Virtualization: VMware-based environments

Key Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day remote operations of Scania’s Data Protection platform.

• Monitor backup, restore, replication, and snapshot operations using Veeam One and Scania Now (Service Now).

• Support installation, migration, expansion, reduction, and relocation of backup systems.

• Ensure backup success rate of ? 99%, with proper documentation and reporting.

• Proactively identify and resolve failed backups and performance issues.

• Perform regular health checks to ensure system stability and optimal performance.

• Act as L1, L2 & L3 support for Data Protection incidents and requests.

• Own incidents end-to-end via Scania Incident Management processes until full resolution.

• Drive incidents proactively, including coordination with vendors and internal technology teams.

• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring or major incidents.

• Act as Problem Manager when no Scania-appointed Problem Manager is assigned.

• Ensure permanent fixes are implemented and documented; avoid workaround-only closures.

• Perform patch management (firmware, OS, agents, drivers) using supplier-approved tools.

• Support installation, migration, decommissioning, and upgrades of Data Protection systems.

• Monitor capacity, utilization, and performance; identify and report potential bottlenecks.

• Coordinate remotely with Scania and hardware/software vendors for lifecycle activities.

• Maintain and update Scania-owned runbooks, routines, and knowledge records.

Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills

• Strong experience managing enterprise backup and restore environments remotely.

Hands-on experience with Veeam Data Platform and Dell Power Protect Data Domain.

• Experience in DDBoost, deduplication, cloning, replication, and snapshot management.

• Good knowledge of databases (Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL).

• Solid knowledge of networking concepts (routing, firewall).

• Experience with incident, problem, and capacity management in managed services.

Certifications

• Veeam Data Platform Certification

• Dell Power Protect Data Domain Certification
