Data Engineering Manager

Job overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Data Engineering Manager to lead our data development and analytics initiatives. This role will be responsible for architecting and optimizing data solutions across relational and non-relational databases, managing a cross-functional data team, and implementing scalable BI and reporting frameworks. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for turning data into business value.

Responsibilities & Duties:

- Lead the development, implementation, and optimization of relational and non-relational databases to support business and application needs.
- Manage and mentor a team of database developers, data engineers, and BI professionals.
- Design and implement scalable data models, ETL pipelines, and enterprise-level reporting systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to understand business requirements and deliver actionable insights.
- Administer database performance tuning, backup strategies, and implement security protocols.
- Define and enforce standards for data governance, data quality, and security.
- Implement and manage Business Intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Translate complex business needs into technical reporting solutions, dashboards, and data visualizations.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends in data engineering, cloud databases, and analytics technologies to drive innovation.

Required Qualifications:

Experience:

Minimum 10 years of experience in database development and data management. At least 3 years in a team leadership or managerial role, overseeing data or BI teams.

Technical

Skills:

- Strong command of SQL, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and performance optimization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik View, Looker).
- Proficient in ETL tools and data integration platforms such as SSRS, SSIS, and Azure Data Lake.
- Experience designing and maintaining data warehouse solutions and dimensional modeling.
- Experience working with Azure cloud services for data management and analytics.
- Familiar with best practices in database security, backup, and disaster recovery.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with Dev Ops practices for data projects, including CI/CD pipelines and version control.
- Certifications in BI platforms or cloud database technologies (e.g., Azure Data Engineer, Tableau Certified).
