1. Welding Process Development & Optimization
Develop and qualify WPS/PQR for Stellite hardfacing, overlay welding, and fabrication of valve components.
Select welding consumables, define parameters, and specify preheat/interpass requirements.
Optimize welding processes to improve quality and reduce cycle times.
2. Production Support
Provide technical support during fabrication and hardfacing of TOV, Ball Valve, and pressure-containing components.
Prepare weld maps and guide welders through sequencing and distortion control.
Troubleshoot weld defects and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
3. Quality Control & Compliance
Ensure compliance with ASME, API (609/6D/600), ISO standards, and customer specifications.
Support NDE activities (PT, UT, RT, MPI) and verify weld acceptance criteria.
Conduct metallurgical evaluation for hardfacing, overlays, and repair welds.
4. Documentation & Records
Prepare and maintain WPS, PQR, WPQR documents and ensure traceability.
Review welding sections of QAP/ITP and approve fabrication documentation.
Maintain records of heat treatment, consumables, and process audit findings.
Maintain weld repair record and provide cost of poor quality on monthly basis.
5. Welder Management
Conduct welder qualification tests and skill assessments.
Train welders on TIG, MIG, PTA hardfacing, and advanced techniques.
Monitor welder performance and ensure adherence to procedures.
6. Continuous Improvement
Implement improvements in welding quality, consumable usage, and process efficiency.
Evaluate and adopt advanced welding technologies such as automated PTA, laser cladding, or robotic welding.
Who You Are:
Strong analytical and metallurgical understanding.
Ability to manage welders and guide the shop floor.
Detail-oriented and strong documentation skills.
For This Role, You Will Need:
Education
B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Metallurgical Engineering (preferred)
or
Diploma in Welding Technology with strong industry experience.
3-8 years of experience in welding for industrial valves, pressure equipment, or critical fabrication.
Handson experience with:
Stellite hardfacing using Plasma Transfer Arc (PTA) / GMAW / GTAW process
Triple Offset Valve / Ball Valve manufacturing
Welding of stainless steels, duplex alloys, Inconel, and hardfacing alloys
Welding codes & standards: ASME Section IX, ASME B31.3, ASME Sec V, VIII, ISO 156141, EN 134454, API
609,API 6D, API 600, ISO standards etc.
Understanding of metallurgy: dilution, heat-affected zone (HAZ), hardfacing wear properties.
Knowledge of Stellite alloys, PTA welding, TIG hardfacing, valve sealing surfaces.
Awareness of NDE methods and acceptance criteria.
Familiarity with valve design, pressure-containing parts, and manufacturing flow.

Technical Skills
Expertise in TIG, MIG, SMAW & PTA hardfacing processes.
Ability to develop/qualify WPS/PQR/WPQR.
Good understanding of machining allowances posthardfacing.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and 3D models.
Troubleshooting of welding defects.
Soft Skills

Ability to train and develop welders.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Quality consciousness and safety awareness.
Safety Responsibilities
Ensure all welding and hardfacing activities comply with company safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and ISO safety standards.
Enforce safe handling, storage, and usage of welding equipment, gases, and consumables.
Ensure correct use of PPE for welders (helmet, gloves, FR clothing, safety boots, face shield).
Conduct regular safety audits of welding booths, gas cylinders, electrical connections, and extraction systems.
Implement and monitor safety protocols for high-temperature operations, Stellite handling, and PTA/TIG hardfacing.
Ensure proper ventilation and fume extraction for cobaltbased alloy (Stellite) welding to prevent exposure hazards.
Provide safety training and toolbox talks related to welding hazards (arc flash, fumes, burns, fire, electrical risks).
Participate in risk assessments, HIRA/JSA, and incident investigations.
Ensure compliance with lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures for welding machines and rotating equipment.
