Job Description: Manhattanville University is seeking an adjunct professor to teach private voice lessons for the Spring 2026 semester (January 20 – May 13). If the Spring semester is successful, there will be the possibility of future employment.
Location: In-person on the Manhattanville campus. Lessons are scheduled following the faculty and student’s availability, and available studio space. Approximately 12 students needing private lessons. Manhattanville does not provide travel stipends.
Supervisory Responsibilities- None
- Prepare and teach well‑organized lessons.
- Follow the General Syllabus for Applied Voice Lessons.
- Review the Voice Handbook with students at the start of the semester.
- Attend juries during the final week of the semester (as schedule permits).
- Post assignment grades in Brightspace for students to track their academic progress.
- Use Manhattanville email for correspondence with students, faculty and staff; respond to email in a timely fashion.
- Submit Roster Reconciliations, Mid‑Term and Final Grades by appropriate deadlines. File Retention Alerts when student concerns arise.
- Uphold and comply with faculty duties as described in Section V of the Faculty Handbook:
General Faculty Duties and Academic Opportunities. - Be familiar with the University Catalog and Faculty Handbook.
- Piano skills sufficient for playing voice lessons.
- Expertise in classical and musical theatre vocal technique, as evidenced through student or personal performance.
- Membership in appropriate professional organizations: NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), MTEA (Music Theatre Educators Association), etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with Brightspace or similar LMS.
Education: Graduate/Terminal degree in Music:
Vocal Pedagogy preferred, Vocal Performance acceptable. Candidates with other degrees will be considered in rare cases.
Experience: Previous teaching experience, Tenor or Baritone preferred.
Physical Requirements: None.
Salary: $1,120 per student for the term.
Hours ExpectationTeaching time: 1 hour per student per week.
Office hours: N/A.
HousingHousing is not provided.
