Cytotechnologist Job – 25 hour 1st shift, Lab Department
Day Kimball Health is hiring a Cytotechnologist for a 25‑hour 1st‑shift position in the Lab Department at our Putnam, CT facility.

The Cytotechnologist will prepare, accession, and screen slide preparations of cellular samples, assist pathologists in diagnosing abnormalities, and maintain laboratory safety and quality standards.
Job Responsibilities- Screen GYN and non‑GYN slides for cellular changes and refer abnormal slides to the pathologist per ASCP/CAP standards.
- Operate and maintain cytology equipment according to manufacturer and laboratory procedures.
- Accession patient samples and enter them into the Pathology Information System using correct account numbers and cytology alpha codes.
- Store slides after the pathologist completes microscopic examination.
- Dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with laboratory policies and federal/state guidelines.
- Dump chemicals into larger barrels for pickup by outside contracted company, using appropriate PPE.
- Inform Lab Management or Safety Department when chemical barrel volume limits or time limits are near to schedule pickup.
- Prepare HPV and Chlamydia/GC specimens for send‑out and process non‑GYN specimen preparation; stain and maintain the Thin Prep
2009 and centrifuge. - Communicate with providers, bill and review charges, and file slides and reports accurately.
- Participate in the annual CAP Cytology proficiency testing.
- Assist in coverage of histology tasks as needed and collaborate with Diagnostic Imaging on specimens requiring immediate evaluation.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and update pathology software; create departmental reports; investigate dictation system queries.
- Monitor and order supplies.
- Ensure lab section complies with regulatory requirements through self‑inspections and participate in onsite/offsite inspections.
- Review and maintain procedure manuals.
- ASCP registered or ASCP eligible required; HHS‑grandfathered Cytotechnologist considered if experience is remarkable.
- Preferred: 5 years of experience in a hospital cytology laboratory.
- Apply logical and scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; abstract and concrete variables.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems, including specimen tracking.
- Excellent communication skills – telephone, written correspondence, and speaking.
- Knowledge of OSHA and regulations relating to hazardous chemicals in the laboratory.
- Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
