Histologist/Histotechnologist Job, 1st Shift, Full Time, Lab Department
Day Kimball Health is hiring a full‑time Histologist/Histotechnologist for the 1st shift in Putnam, CT. As a vital member of the Lab Department, you will prepare tissue, perform staining techniques, and ensure patient safety and histological excellence.

- Maintains and operates equipment essential for the Histology Section according to manufacturer and laboratory procedures.
- Accurately identifies patient samples and accession them into the Pathology Information System using the correct account numbers and tissue alpha codes.
- Responsible for proper storage of both blocks and slides once the pathologist completes microscopic examination.
- Uses and disposes of hazardous materials as stated in laboratory policies and State and Federal Guidelines.
- Runs control slides and does not release slides until control material is examined by the histologist to verify quality of staining procedure.
- Accesses and prepares cytologic material as indicated by specimen type, including slide preparation and staining for Thin Prep Pap tests and slide/cell block preparation and staining of all non‑gynec specimens received into the lab.
Education:
ASCP eligible.
Experience:
5 years of experience in a hospital histology lab preferred.
- Applies principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Able to examine and evaluate data and present alternative actions. Can give and receive assignments and directions to and from hospital staff.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems, including order entry, inquiry and specimen tracking.
- Excellent communication skills including telephone, written correspondence and speaking.
- Knowledge of OSHA and regulations relating to the use of hazardous chemicals in the histology laboratory.
- Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
