As an MLT or MT you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for providing quality laboratory testing on patient samples, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining lab technology integrity.
Job Responsibilities- Maintain and operate clinical lab equipment in accordance with manufacturer and laboratory policy. Interpret results and provide appropriate feedback when results are abnormal or per special request.
- Accurately identify patient samples and accession them into the Laboratory Information System using correct account numbers and test alpha codes.
- Use and dispose of hazardous and biohazardous materials as stated in laboratory policies and State & Federal guidelines.
- Run controls and understand the importance of controls to verify the quality of testing before releasing results.
- Provide phlebotomy services to patients during the shift as needed.
- ASCP Medical Technologist, MLT or AMT Medical Technologist certification required.
- 5 years of experience in a hospital lab preferred.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems, including order entry, inquiry, and specimen tracking.
- Excellent communication skills: telephone, written correspondence, speaking, and critical value reporting.
- Knowledge of OSHA and related regulations concerning hazardous chemicals used in the laboratory.
- Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
- Apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to examine and evaluate data, present alternative actions, and give and receive assignments and directions to and from hospital staff.
- Use appropriate tools and work aids to safely manipulate objects or materials in a laboratory setting, exercising considerable judgment.
