Practical Nurse (Tacoma, WA)

Position located within the Department of Family Medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center (Tacoma, WA) and associated satellite clinics on Joint Base Lewis‑McChord.

Direct hire solicitation. Typical duty hours:
Monday‑Friday 0730‑1600.

• Provide individualized nursing care to patients of all ages based upon the physician’s care plan, nursing assessment, and the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional needs.
• Assist the physician with examinations and diagnostic procedures.
• Prepare medications and immunizations for administration.
• Perform routine procedures: EKGs, eye, throat, nasal, and wound cultures, dressing changes, ear irrigation, and bandage application.
• Perform specialized procedures such as cardiac stress testing on treadmills or bicycles. Administer medications for echocardiogram bubble studies and stress testing echocardiograms.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirement for Practical Nurse

• A current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or District of Columbia; or must have applied for a license to practice. Licensed candidates must submit a certified copy of the license.
• Non‑licensed candidates who have completed training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during probation.

Experience

• One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical nursing facility providing practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile procedures.
• Experience includes assisting health‑care providers with minor medical procedures, providing nursing care, and administering oral medication and immunizations in an outpatient setting.
