Job Description & How to Apply Below
We’re looking for a Systems Administrator to join an Enterprise Monitoring team supporting a Department of Defense customer. The team runs the Solar Winds platform that gives leadership and network operations visibility across the enterprise: what’s up, what’s down, what’s slow, and what needs attention before it becomes a problem. When something breaks on the network, Solar Winds is the first place people look, so it has to stay healthy and come back fast if it goes down.
You’ll administer the Solar Winds servers and the Windows and Linux infrastructure behind them across NIPR and SIPR. You’ll also keep those systems hardened, patched and compliant so they keep their ATO.
What You’ll Do- Administer and maintain the enterprise Solar Winds platform: upgrades, polling engines, modules, alerting, and data collection from network devices and servers
- Troubleshoot Solar Winds issues and work with the database team to keep the platform’s SQL backend healthy
- Administer Windows Server 2022 and Ubuntu Linux servers, including services, logs, permissions, and access controls
- Maintain VMware virtual infrastructure through vCenter, including VMs, snapshots, storage, and resource balancing
- Support backups, restores, and disaster recovery so mission-supporting systems can be recovered quickly
- Apply DISA STIGs, remediate ACAS findings, and keep systems current on patching cycles
- Support RMF activities and work with cybersecurity teams during assessments to maintain the system’s ATO
- Document configuration changes and maintain diagrams, SOPs, and notes the team can use
- Provide Tier 3 troubleshooting and escalation support to government leadership, vendors, and operations leadership
- Support operations during exercises, deployments, and contingency missions
- Help junior team members build their skills and stay ready to cover the platform
- 4+ years of hands-on systems administration experience in a DoD environment
- Hands-on Solar Winds administration experience, beyond just using the console
- Experience administering Windows Server and Active Directory
- Comfortable working in Linux: logs, services, permissions, and the command line
- Hands-on experience applying STIGs and remediating ACAS/Nessus findings
- Working knowledge of RMF and ATO processes
- Networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing, VLANs, and firewalls
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly in plain English
- Experience with Solar Winds modules such as NPM, SAM, NCM, or NTA, and with multi-poller deployments
- VMware vCenter/ESXi administration
- Experience on both NIPR and SIPR networks
- Backup and DR tools (Veeam, Commvault, or similar)
- Power Shell or Bash scripting
- Solar Winds Certified Professional, VCP, or RHCSA
