Position DescriptionThe McGill University Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy within the School of Population and Global Health in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts are inviting applications for a full time joint position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track). We welcome applications from outstanding scholars whose work explore the ethical challenges posed by the development and dissemination of emerging or contested medical technologies (e.g., vaccine hesitancy, genomics, precision medicine), especially as they intersect with disinformation and barriers to care for marginalized communities.

The Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy (is one of the three departments within the School of Population and Global Health at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The Department of Philosophy, housed in the Faculty of Arts, is a pluralist, research‑intensive unit that includes strengths in ethics, political philosophy, logic, and feminist philosophy. The Department emphasizes rigor in argument, clarity in expression, and intellectual generosity, preparing their community of students and researchers not only for academic success but also for vital interdisciplinary work across the humanities, sciences, and professional fields.
The successful candidate will benefit from a robust, existing Inter‑Faculty bridge between the Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy (DEEP) and the Department of Philosophy. With several members already holding joint appointments, the appointee will join a flourishing and integrated community of colleagues actively engaged in bioethics across the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Arts.
Job DutiesThe successful candidate will be actively involved in the academic activities of both departments, including research, teaching, and supervision of students and residents, and service on academic and administrative committees. In addition to other teaching duties to be determined by the joint Chairs, the incumbent will be required to develop and teach a new Health Care Ethics course to be offered in the Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy.
The successful candidate will also be expected to develop and sustain an externally funded, independent research program addressing the ethical challenges posed by the development and dissemination of emerging or contested medical technologies and their implications for health equity. This research agenda should be aligned with, and contribute to, the DNA to RNA (D2R) Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) initiative at McGill, particularly along Axis 6 ().
