Summary:

Long Point First Nation is an English-speaking Anishinabeg community located in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Western Quebec. Amo Ososwan School provides Junior Kindergarten to Grade 11 classes. The Ontario curriculum-based instructional program includes daily Algonquin Language and Culture classes. The primary role of the Learning Support Teacher is to deliver targeted one-on-one and small group instruction to students on IEPs. The Learning Support Teacher addresses learning needs and difficulties, including gaps resulting from absences or incomplete prior learning.

This involves providing remedial support to strengthen foundational skills and developing individualized strategies tailored to each student's needs. The goal is to help students achieve their IEP objectives and make measurable academic progress. Additionally, in collaboration with other members of the Specialized Services team, the Learning Support Teacher works with the Manager of Specialized Services to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and partners with teachers to integrate these plans into classroom instruction.

They provide guidance on lesson modifications, recommend accommodations, and oversee differentiated instruction and assistive technology, while monitoring to ensure that IEPs are being effectively followed. Duties:
Develop and deliver tailored instructional strategies and interventions to meet the unique needs of students with learning differences or additional support needs. Help to create, implement, and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that address students' specific needs. Conduct assessments to identify students' learning needs and track their progress. Use data to inform instruction and adjust strategies as necessary. Collaborate with teachers to support differentiated instruction and ensure the integration of students with additional support needs into the general classroom setting.

Identify and utilize appropriate learning resources and assistive technologies to support students' educational needs. Develop and implement targeted remedial instruction to address specific learning gaps, providing individualized support to reinforce foundational skills and close academic deficiencies. Maintain accurate and confidential records of students' progress, assessments, and interventions. Regularly review and update records to reflect current needs and achievements. Encourage student voice and self-advocacy, helping students set and achieve personal learning goals.

Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on strategies for student success. Develop and implement strategies to support students with behavioural and emotional challenges, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment. Apply trauma-informed practices and support mental health needs by providing or referring students to appropriate services. Stay current with best practices in special education and participate in professional development opportunities.

Mandatory Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Education. Must hold a valid teaching certification from a Canadian province or territory. Candidates who do not already hold OCT certification must be willing to obtain it within a specified time.

Experience with students having learning difficulties and/or behavioral challenges, including behavior management strategies. Strong background in Special Education, including AQ courses / Specialist qualifications.…
