As an Estimator within Pomerleau’s Civil & Infrastructure division, you will play a key role at the heart of the Earthworks business unit. You will support the growth of new and ongoing projects by challenging industry standards through your expertise and knowledge of the trade. You will be involved in large-scale projects ranging from $1.5M to over one billion dollars, across various areas of expertise, including sewer and waterworks, wind farms, dams, and roadwork, as well as other projects carried out in synergy with the organization’s different business units.
By working closely with our proposals team and diverse client groups, you will actively contribute to securing competitive bids and ensuring the overall success of our projects.
- Actively contribute to the bidding process and the preparation of competitive proposals
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment
- Prepare and validate quantity summaries based on plans and specifications
- Accurately interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents
- Identify and analyze all project costs, including direct and indirect costs (contingencies, inflation, overhead, fees, etc.)
- Review and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers during the tender closing process
- Ensure estimates are aligned with client requirements and project feasibility
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Participate in design-build projects and coordinate the various stakeholders involved in the estimating process
- Propose value engineering solutions to optimize costs and improve bid competitiveness
- Contribute to the development of the subcontractor and supplier network
- Depending on your level of experience, mentor and support junior team members
- Between 3 to 8+ years of experience in construction estimating
- A degree in engineering, construction management, estimating, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working on civil infrastructure projects (earthworks, structures, deep foundations, formwork, or similar)
- Strong understanding of the bidding and tendering process
- Solid skills in quantity take-offs and cost analysis
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders
- Strong business acumen and ability to propose practical and efficient solutions
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency with estimating tools and software
