Job Description & How to Apply Below
Who We Are:
Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rail and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough.
The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.
Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)
- Establish, roll out, and enforce project-specific Quality Control Plans and ITPs for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage systems.
- Lead formal inspections of all incoming MEP equipment, components, and bulk materials to verify absolute compliance with approved engineering submittals and product standards.
- Coordinate and sign off on initial mock-ups for repetitive or critical system installations to lock in visual and technical quality benchmarks early.
- Conduct daily, meticulous walkthroughs of the job site to audit physical workmanship, checking critical metrics like pipe slopes, duct sealing, conduit support spacing, and cable tray integrity.
- Author, issue, and track formal Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). Maintain the project's digital quality punch list and perform strict re-inspections before closing out deficiencies.
- Act as the primary site witness and validating authority for all mandatory MEP tests, including hydrostatic piping pressure tests, duct leakage testing, and electrical continuity/megger checks.
- Execute detailed pre-functional checklists to verify that all equipment is properly anchored, aligned, lubricated, energized, and safe for initial startup.
- Coordinate and lead field walks with municipal building inspectors, utility providers, and third-party commissioning agents to secure mandatory structural and system sign-offs.
- Review and officially sign off on MEP quality checklists before permission is granted to close drywall or pour concrete over embedded services.
- Review construction drawings, schematics, and manufacturer specifications to independently verify that field installations match engineered layouts.
- Evaluate technical Requests for Information (RFIs) regarding physical site constraints, ensuring proposed field solutions do not compromise system performance or code compliance.
- Audit field drawings and redlines continuously to ensure "as-built" records are an accurate, real-time reflection of the physical site installation.
- Compile, index, and audit all signed testing logs, material certifications, valve charts, and warranties into the final project Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
- Ensure strict field compliance with Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) protocols and safe boundaries during high-risk pressure testing and electrical energization phases.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a highly relevant quality systems discipline.
- 3–5+ years of dedicated experience in construction verification, site testing, or technical field auditing specifically for MEP trades.
- Significant experience with blueprint reading, schematic interpretation, and physical inspection methodologies.
- Proficiency with digital Engineering project management software’s management and punch-list software (e.g. Autodesk, Smart Sheet, STACK, etc.).
- Deep, working knowledge of localized building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing codes (e.g., Ontario Building Code, National Electrical Code, ASHRAE).
- Strong communication skills, both, verbal and written.
- Self-motivated with good organizational skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with others as a team.
