Position SummaryThe Necropsy Technician plays an essential role in supporting preclinical toxicology and safety assessment studies by performing animal necropsies, tissue collection, tissue processing, and quality control activities.
As a member of the Pathology Department, the Necropsy Technician contributes to the generation of accurate, reliable pathology data while ensuring compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), animal welfare standards, and study protocols. This position requires strong technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to quality, scientific integrity, and regulatory excellence.
Key Responsibilities Necropsy & Tissue Collection- Perform euthanasia, necropsies, and tissue collection on laboratory animals in accordance with approved study protocols and animal welfare standards.
- Conduct thorough gross examinations and accurately document macroscopic findings.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely necropsy records and study documentation.
- Prepare tissues for histopathological evaluation, including fixation, trimming, embedding, microtomy, staining, and slide preparation.
- Ensure that all specimens are processed according to established laboratory procedures and quality standards.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot necropsy and histology equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Prepare reagents, solutions, and laboratory materials required for tissue processing and analytical procedures.
- Perform quality control reviews of histology slides and associated documentation.
- Ensure compliance with GLP regulations, SOPs, study plans, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate raw data, traceability records, and documentation in support of data integrity initiatives.
- Assist with inventory management, laboratory organization, and routine equipment maintenance.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment in accordance with laboratory safety standards.
- Collaborate closely with pathologists, Study Directors, animal care personnel, and multidisciplinary teams to support study objectives.
- Participate in training activities, onboarding of new employees, on-call duties, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Pathology Department.
- Contribute to operational excellence through adherence to quality standards and best laboratory practices.
- D.E.C. in Animal Health Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related scientific field; or
- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biology or a related life sciences discipline.
- Experience in pathology, necropsy, histology, laboratory animal science, or a related laboratory environment is considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate data.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow SOPs, study protocols, and regulatory requirements with precision.
- Commitment to animal welfare, workplace safety, scientific integrity, and quality compliance.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Fluency in French is required for internal communications.
- English reading and writing skills are mandatory, as all study documentation is produced in English.
- Full-time permanent position (37.5 hours per week)
