BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland. We manage and maintain over 2,00km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving.

The South East Trunk Road Unit spans 506km through some of the busiest sections of the country, from central Scotland to through the Scottish Borders. Trunk roads in the South East range from the major multi-lane motorways across the central belt to roads through villages in the borders.

The South East Unit includes 870 bridges and structures including the iconic Queensferry Crossing and Forth Road Bridge, as well as other major bridges such as the Kincardine Bridge and Clackmannanshire Bridge.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trunk Road Incident Liaison Officer to join our team on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Network Manager, you will play a key role in coordinating effective responses to incidents across the South East Network, helping to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the trunk road network 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with monitoring the impact of incidents on journey times and network performance.
  • Support the management of severe weather events and winter maintenance operations.
  • Liaise with emergency services, Traffic Scotland and Trunk Road Incident Support Units.
  • Coordinate the deployment of emergency response and winter maintenance crews.
  • Monitor road conditions, traffic information and weather forecasts.
  • Maintain accurate records, databases and incident reporting systems.
  • Support the effective management of incidents to minimise disruption and maintain network safety.
Knowledge,

Skills and Experience:
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good IT skills with the ability to accurately update systems and records.
  • Previous experience in a similar operational, emergency response, roads authority or control room environment would be advantageous.
  • Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible approach and willingness to work a shift pattern, including nights and weekends.
