Job duties include monitoring fishing effort of Lake Talquin. The incumbent will interview anglers on the water while operating a boat, asking specific questions about their catch and harvest of freshwater fish species. Surveys are conducted sometimes in inclement weather. The incumbent is responsible for accurately recording detailed survey data and operating FWC vehicles in a safe and law‑abiding manner. This position is seasonal and temporary (January – June 2026).
Creel shifts are scheduled via random selection, weekdays, weekends, holidays. Each shift 5 hours, earliest 7am‑12pm, latest 1pm‑6pm.
- A high school diploma and two years of post‑high‑school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction.
- Vocational training or an Associate’s degree in relevant field may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
- Experience with data collection.
- Experience communicating with the public.
- Level 1 background check at no cost to candidate.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be able to operate boats, motors, and trailers.
- Proficient in safely operating boat/outboard motor, launching/retrieving, maneuvering, holding position close to other boats, trailer towing, backing down boat ramp.
- Must acquire Florida boater safety training, CPR certification, FWC boat & trailer training.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to trailer, launch, and safely operate boats up to 20 ft in length.
- Ability to effectively communicate with the public.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and appropriately represent agency.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to safely operate vehicles.
- Ability to work in inclement weather.
