About the Position
This is a full-time, 12-month, grant funded exempt position that reports to the Manager of Academic Talent Search and is located at the JWCC main campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins immediately.
Job DescriptionJohn Wood Community College is seeking an enthusiastic and student-focused Advisor for the TRIO – Academic Talent Search (ATS) program. This position provides individualized and group support to TRIO-eligible middle and high school students, helping them explore careers, navigate financial aid, and prepare for college success. The Advisor will play a key role in identifying, recruiting, and guiding students through academic, personal, and college‑readiness challenges while ensuring program compliance and supporting TRIO goals.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct advising and support to TRIO – ATS participants in academic, career, and financial aid planning.
- Assess participant needs and develop individualized annual plans.
- Design and implement academic enrichment activities, including workshops, campus visits, and financial literacy sessions.
- Track and document participant progress to meet federal grant requirements.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with target schools, community partners, and JWCC departments.
- Assist in identifying and recruiting eligible students for the program.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Education regulations and program objectives.
- Supervise and participate in student educational trips, both in and out of state.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, social work, or a related field required.
- Two years of experience working with TRIO or similar student support programs preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to relate well to a diverse student population and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong time management and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday‑Thursday (8:00am – 5:00pm) and Friday (8:00am – 12:00pm).
- Must be available for occasional evening, weekend, or overnight activities related to student events or college visits.
- This is an exempt position with an annual salary range of $35,568.00 - $36,000.00.
