Ball Mill Operator

A Ball Mill Operator ensures a mill produces a quality product as specified in the DP409001 "Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines". The operator reports to the Production Supervisor and works the night shift 6:30 PM – 6:30 AM.
Responsibilities- The operator runs three ball mill units (1, 7, 27, 28, 29, 36, 37, 38, 47), a coating system, 7 classifiers, 12 load‑out systems, and a granulation system that feeds bulk granular products.
- Inspects the mill unit area for unsafe conditions daily.
- Operates mills in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs preventative maintenance and locks out electrical equipment before repair work.
- Loads materials as established by the Plant Scheduler or Area Coordinator.
- Obtains in‑process, final product, or load‑out samples at predetermined intervals per DP409001 or plant order instructions.
- Uses SPC techniques to guide process adjustments.
- Inspects trucks and rail cars before loading.
- Prepares required daily operation reports.
- May direct packaging personnel or perform packaging duties under the Area Coordinator’s direction.
- Advises succeeding operators, coordinators, and maintenance on operating problems and conditions.
- Observes all applicable company policies, safe practices, and performs all duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Applies knowledge of ISO 9001 to assure compliance to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical school a plus.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years industrial experience or technical school equivalent.
- Willing and able to work and act safely (laboratory and plant practices).
- Must perform basic mathematical calculations: multiplication, addition, percentages.
- Good overall communication skills with employees at all levels.
- Must read and comprehend company safety manual policies, operating procedures, MSDS, and production schedules/reports.
- Works in the control room and mill unit building exposed to heat, cold, noise, vibrations, grease, oil, ground limestone and somewhat dirty conditions.
- Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs occasionally, climb ladders, stairs, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and crawl. Must work in a dusty environment with temperature variations from extremely hot to cold, humidity, and around chemicals.

Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as an applicant’s skills, performance, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certifications, and market considerations. U.S. Market‑Based Salary Range:
Ball Mill Operator [$27.55 - $30.30]. In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit‑sharing payout.
