ACK Marine & General Contracting is a marine & heavy‑civil, commercial diving, dredging, & general construction company with headquarters in Quincy, MA
. We are looking for a Safety Officer to serve the New England Area (MA, RI, CT, NH, ME).

Position

Construction Safety Officer

The Construction Safety Officer will serve as the frontline leader of our safety program. This individual manages day‑to‑day safety activities, ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, meets client and regulatory requirements, and builds a practical, proactive safety environment embedded in daily operations.

Responsibilities Site Safety Oversight
  • Conduct daily job site walkthroughs to identify hazards and implement corrective actions before incidents occur.
  • Monitor high‑risk operations including fall protection, crane & rigging activities, lifting operations, trenching, confined space entry, and energized work.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926, company policies, and client/GC safety requirements.
Program Implementation & Compliance
  • Ensure toolbox talks, JHAs, JSAs, daily inspections, and required safety programs are up to date and documented daily.
  • Maintain and track training, certifications, and competencies (OSHA 10/30, task‑specific training, site orientations).
  • Assist in developing and improving site‑specific safety plans, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Lead incident and near‑miss investigations, identify root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Promote a culture of hazard recognition, open communication, and proactive reporting.
Coordination & Communication
  • Act as the bridge between field crews, project management, the office, and client representatives regarding safety expectations and requirements.
  • Participate in coordination meetings, pre‑task planning, and project kickoff sessions to integrate safety into all phases of work.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of construction safety experience (marine or heavy civil preferred).
  • OSHA 30 required; additional safety certifications strongly preferred (CHST, STS, First Aid/CPR, etc.).
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926.
  • Excellent communication skills with field staff, project managers, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and navigate active construction and marine environments.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee will be required to traverse temporary falsework templates to facilitate survey layout for activities like pile driving. The employee will be required to board and disembark from boats, work skiffs, and barges.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds safely. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on‑site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock; barges and heavy equipment and machinery. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
