About the Role

Our Water/Wastewater Practice is hiring a Project Engineer to perform design, permitting and construction administration tasks on a variety of water and wastewater projects for municipal clients across New England. This is a hybrid position, based in our Quincy, MA office.

They will also take an increasingly responsible role in the technical aspect of projects and perform duties such as assisting Project Managers with client contact, maintaining budgets and schedules, project coordination, project reviews, and technical proposals.

Examples of water projects: water main and service installations, well stations, meter replacement programs, distribution system modeling, master planning, and storage tanks. Examples of wastewater projects: collection systems, pumping stations, and force mains.

Monthly regional travel will be required.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, calculations, correspondences, designs, drawings, specifications, permit applications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimating.
  • Assist the Project Manager in complying with assigned project schedules and budgets by actively reporting on project progress and identifying additional work outside the contractual scope of work.
  • Work with subconsultants under the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Review calculations, design assumptions, and concepts to assure quality control.
  • Provide technical input into proposals by developing scope of work, budgets, and schedules based on historical information or experience.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical presentations.
  • Participate in client meetings and/or technical presentations.
  • Work effectively and efficiently within established hourly budgets and monitor self‑performance.
  • Develop knowledge of pertinent local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Prepare permit applications and coordinate with regulators.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients on technical issues by communicating frequently and regularly.
  • Lead fieldwork such as GPS data collection and construction observation.
  • Assist with construction administration by tracking and reviewing submittals, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, reviewing and compiling daily and weekly construction reports, and tracking construction schedules.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff.
  • Provide on‑the‑job training and mentoring for entry‑level engineers and interns.
  • Develop skills in hydraulic modeling with software such as Water

    GEMS and Sewer

    GEMS.
  • Develop increasingly effective writing and presentation skills and present data that supports technical decisions and the rationale for making them.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline, and 4+ years of relevant water/wastewater engineering design experience. OR Master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant design experience.
  • PE License or Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT), actively pursuing P.E. registration in Massachusetts or able to obtain same by reciprocity.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD. ArcGIS or other associated technical software preferred.
  • Valid and clean driver's license.
