Mass General Brigham – Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is seeking a Medical Assistant to support healthcare teams by providing clinical and non‑clinical patient services under the guidance of healthcare providers.

Job Summary

Supports the delivery of patient care by taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, providing patient education, and performing general office duties. The role involves direct patient interaction and collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff.

Responsibilities
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
  • Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provide immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • Improve appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
Qualifications Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.

Licenses and Credentials
  • BLS certification (Basic Life Support)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) – preferred.
Experience

Direct medical assistant experience or medical field work 1‑2 years required.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a complex and busy environment.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Compliance with all privacy and confidentiality regulations.
  • Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples and other specimens.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of solutions, conclusions, or approaches.
  • Manage one's own time and the time of others.
