Job Description

Performs installation, inspection, repair, monitoring, and both preventive and corrective maintenance on facility equipment, systems, and structures to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation. Responsibilities include work on individual components as well as complex systems and infrastructure. Tasks are performed under limited supervision, based on completed training and demonstrated proficiency. Assignments may involve specialized areas such as scaffolding, locksmithing, tool control, lubrication and oil management, equipment repair, or tool and rigging inspection and cleanup activities.

Pay range: $27-40/hour based on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance on operating systems such as hydrolysis, distillation, fractionation, separations, logistics, and utilities under supervision.
  • Inspect and test equipment to identify wear, damage, or malfunction and assist in troubleshooting.
  • Interpret work orders, blueprints, and P&IDs to determine repair requirements and corrective actions.
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance of valves, pumps, and steam traps.
  • Reassemble pumps and other mechanical equipment according to specifications using appropriate tools.
  • Safely and effectively operate mechanical and power tools required for maintenance tasks.
  • Support process equipment assembly, installation, and alignment as directed.
  • Perform routine lubrication and flange maintenance as assigned.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities and findings in the computerized work order system.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of plant policies, procedures, programs, and codes, and perform work accordingly.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance, lubrication, equipment surveillance, and calibration tasks.
  • Prepare and maintain maintenance reports, logs, records, and historical data as required.
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance methods, procedures, and predictive programs to enhance plant performance; may provide guidance to other technicians or craft personnel.
  • Assist with maintaining tools, equipment, and spare parts necessary for plant maintenance operations.
  • Participate in training to maintain proficiency in the primary craft and a secondary specialty area.
  • Perform rigging operations to support the safe movement of equipment and materials.
  • Follow and apply all tagging and lockout/tagout procedures to ensure safety compliance.
  • Contribute to developing and updating training materials, procedures, and preventive maintenance documentation.
  • Notify supervision of any maintenance activity not conducted in compliance with procedures, standards, or safety requirements.
  • Report and halt any operation that poses a risk to personnel, equipment, or ongoing plant operations.
  • Perform or oversee snow removal activities as required.
  • Maintain organization and upkeep of on-site tool cribs and the lube oil shop.
  • Participate in plant outages as assigned, fulfilling designated outage roles and maintaining required training qualifications; may include shift or extended-hour work.

Required Skills
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Post‑secondary certification in Mechanical or Repair Technologies preferred.
  • Successful completion of a mechanical skills assessment.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, shop tools, torque wrenches, torches, and similar equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, function, repair, and maintenance; experience with Bridgeport or lathe equipment a plus.
  • Understanding of safety and security policies, equipment, and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and identify when and what type of maintenance or support is required.
  • Skilled in diagnosing and repairing mechanical systems using appropriate tools and methods.
  • Capable of identifying root causes of equipment issues and determining effective corrective actions.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills for evaluating alternative solutions and problem‑solving approaches.
  • Ability to select and use the correct tools, equipment, and materials for each job.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills and a commitment to information sharing to maintain safety and coordination.
  • Comfortable working in industrial or dirty environments.
  • Experience operating manual lathes.
  • Experience operating manual milling machines.
Physical Requirements
  • Exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and may take place in confined spaces.
  • Frequent walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 50lbs.
  • Climb stairs and ladders to heights of 120 feet.
  • Turn valves, move handles, work overhead.
  • Support TRT's annual shutdown
