Heavy Industrial Foundry Power & Controls Electrician

Position Purpose

Performs skilled industrial electrician duties on the journeyman level in the installation, repair, and maintenance of wastewater systems and equipment.

Essential Duties
  • Measures, cuts, installs and assembles electrical conduit using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Responsible for electrical and mechanical operations in addition to repairs of Racine Wastewater treatment plant, field maintenance garage, lift stations, safety sites and other sites maintained by the utility.
  • Plans layout and installs and repairs wiring, fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
  • Installs or connects power cables to equipment and provides for proper grounding.
  • Maintains and provides necessary repair to AC‑DC control devices, AC‑DC motors, commutators, transformers, cranes, hoists, elevators, batteries, power tools and appliances.
  • Wires switchboards, switchgears, transformers, meters, UPS, relays, and PLC’s.
  • Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components.
  • Plans new or modified installations to minimize power failure, provide access for future maintenance and provide consistency with specifications and local regulations and code.
  • May prepare sketches showing wiring location and utilize diagrams or blueprints in updating specifications and locations.
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Conditions of Employment
  • Ability to work under moderately safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as toxic agents may cause some discomfort and where there is a risk of minor injury.
  • Ability to work in year‑round Wisconsin outdoor weather conditions with exposure to loud noises, damp, wet, and unpleasant odor.
  • Ability to walk extensively, often while carrying tools and supplies, and work in a standing position for long stretches of time.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Journeyman electrician license with the State of Wisconsin with two years of progressive industrial experience required.
  • Ability to obtain Supervising Electrician Certification from City Electrical Inspector within 1 year or holds a Master License.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and have a good driving record.
  • Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources General Wastewater Operator’s License is desirable, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Ability to apply good work practices by planning work and utilizing materials efficiently.
  • Skill in analyzing, diagnosing, and correcting mechanical failures and defects; including a working knowledge of electrical functions, principles and techniques.
  • Must have good electrical aptitude, verifiable by past work experience.
  • Ability to use test equipment such as Multimeter, Megger, Amp Meter, etc.
  • Knowledge of generator operation and maintenance.
  • Motor control & logic control knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the installation and operation of 24,900 / 4,160 volt switch gear and feeders.
  • Ability to test and diagnose failure in lighting and power circuits.
  • Ability to work with and troubleshoot unit equipment.
  • Understanding of alarm, communications, lighting, power systems, timing relays, and transformers.
  • Knowledge and ability to connect circuits in main and distribution cabinets and boxes.
  • Ability to lay out jobs from prints and sketches, select materials, and maintain records, descriptions, blueprints, costs, and files.
  • Ability to solve problems of more than moderate difficulty with a minimum of supervision and direction.
Physical & Mental Abilities Requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the general public.
  • Ability to communicate with fellow employees to troubleshoot various unit processes.
